Advanced Teaching Online
In the 21st century, online learning is becoming an essential component of education. This course guides participants through planning, developing, and teaching an effective online course. Learn a ten-step model for course development and explore one of the most advanced online classrooms designed for instructors. Participants will gain skills in creating online audio lectures with accompanying slide presentations and learn how self-quizzes can enhance student learning. Experience interactive elements such as animations, drag-and-drop exercises, and engaging welcome pages, and participate in online discussions with fellow educators. The course includes the instructor’s book, Advanced Teaching Online, to support continued learning and application.
This class is included in the Certificate in Online Teaching and Certified Online Instructor COI course.
Mary Dereshiwsky
Mary Dereshiwsky is an expert in online teaching and creator of the online teaching technique “continuous engagement.” She is a professor at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, where she teaches graduate courses online. She has taught other instructors how to teach online for more than five years.
Dereshwisky has also been on the graduate faculty of Capella University, written on the topic of online teaching, and given presentations at national educational conferences on the topic. She critiques online courses for other instructors and is Chair of the Advisory Board for the Certified Online Instructor (COI) designation for the Learning Resources Network.
William Draves
William A. Draves is one of the foremost authorities in the world on teaching online. He has taught for over thirty years, including teaching at the graduate level. He is the author of the textbook for this course.
